Highland Park Best Spots To Eat

So you have the feel to munch on something and desire some great place to eat

Food

Food

while in Highland Park. Here are a few of my (Raphael’s) favorites to stop in and try for a sensational taste treat.

Antigua Bread – Ave. 57 & Figueroa, across Chase Bank

This recently opened bakery seems more like a cross between a panaderia and a Starbucks than an authentic West Indian bakery. Antigua Bread offers a variety of items from great sandwiches to Tex-Mex to tasty baked goods.

Cinnamon Vegetarian Restaurant – Ave. 55 & Figueroa

You can start with exciting salads and juices move to bright entrees fittingly skew Latin—minus the lard that makes refried beans so mouth-wateringly tasty. The menu also features a diverse selection of faux meat: Passable shrimp, carnitas and chorizo get mocked up in soy while wheat protein composes something called “happy bread steak.”

Folliero’s Pizza & Italian Food – Ave. 55 & Figueroa

This is a family owned Italian jewel that serves heaping portions of traditional pasta along with pizza you will long remember. Stop in and be greeted by Titina, the daughter, who will advise you depending on your taste for the day.

Huarache Azteca – Ave. 52 & York Blvd.

The #1 item on the menu is the huarache, a long oval of masa prepared with meat, onions, cilantro, crema and finely powdered cheese on top. The tastiest meat is pork in a terrific tangy marinade . Thin-cut carne asada and chicken are other choices, and you can pump up the flavor of any of the meats with three fiery salsas. Refreshing drinks such as Horchata, Tamarindo and Jamaica are an energizing change from a standard canned soft drink.

Juanita’s Restaurant – Ave. 59 & York Blvd.

Proven Mexican specialties make you want to return and savor the variety of quality items on the menu. The ambiance is relaxing and friendly in an open atmosphere of comfort. A nice diversity of Mexican/American items make it a pleasure to enjoy and easily be satisfied.

Special Valentines Day In Eagle Rock

filed under: Eagle Rock, Northeast Los Angeles Area Info posted on February 10th, 2010

Eagle Rock Eatery

Eagle Rock Eatery

Auntie Em’s Restaurant in Eagle Rock is offering a special Valentines Day Menu for all to enjoy and take advantage of.  Just look at the history of farming and food that is part of the Eagle Rock culture.

Soon after 1871, when the entire Rancho San Rafael was divided by court order, the Eagle Rock area was turned into a farming community. It was the start of great eating for many in this new farming community.  Many of the craftsman homes were built in this time as well as three elementary schools. Keep in mind that all those workers needed to have good healthy meals to keep them going. In 1911, Eagle Rock incorporated into its own city and a trend of local eateries with home-made food came into fashion. In 1923, Eagle Rock gave up its city-ship to be annexed by the city of Los Angeles and the trend of great fresh food for local residents continued.

Today, Auntie Em’s is a popular spot known for its healthy menu and scrumptious deserts and is offering a special venue for Valentines Day. The special meal will be complete from appetizer to dessert and is a cost of only $28 per person.

Here is what you will be served;

Cream of Asparagus Soup
Lamb Shepherd’s Pie with Creamed Bloomsdale Spinach
Braised Lamb Shank pulled off the bone, topped with Creamed Spinach and
Mashed Potatoes from Weiser Farms
OR
Roasted Vegetable Shepherd’s Pie
Roasted Baby Root Vegetables from McGrath Farms, topped with Sautéed
Wild Mushrooms and Mashed Potatoes from Weiser Farms

Dessert
Heart Shaped Chocolate Ganache Cake for Two
Additional sweet treats—
Heart Shaped Red Velvet Cake (serves approx. 4 people: Auntie Em’s classic
Red Velvet cake in a fun heart shape $15.95
Chocolate Cherry Cupcake: Auntie Em’s Chocolate Cupcake with Tart Cherries, topped with Cherry Cream Cheese Frosting $3.50
Mini Raspberry Galettes: Rustic Mini Pie baked with fresh Raspberries $3.75
Hand-dipped Chocolate Covered Strawberries: Strawberries hand
dipped in white and dark Chocolate $3.50
Assorted Homemade Truffles: A package of four in the following flavors: Orange-Vanilla Bean White Chocolate,
Espresso Chocolate, Balsamic Vinegar Chocolate, and Champagne Truffle $3.50

A great way to have a meal that is different and extraordinary for that special person. As a local Realtor, Raphael is aware of these little known neighborhood goodies that take place in the community. Thinking of Eagle Rock as your next home, then inquire as to the benefits this N.E.L.A neighborhood can offer in all things besides great eateries.

First we have a new Vietnamese Diner open called ‘Good Girl Dinette’.
GGD’s slogan is “American diner meets Vietnamese comfort food”. The diner is located on Ave 56 just off Figueroa, the space is a clean revamped diner with a parking lot across the street. The menu offers a great variety and the prices are very affordable. You are also given the option to order small portions allowing you to sample the different offerings at each visit. I myself love the Vietnamese Spring Rolls that are as tasty as can be. Who said Highland Park is solely hispanic food. Stop by and try something different in this great and upcoming community of northeast Los Angeles.     http://www.goodgirlfoods.com/

The community is also the new home of  ‘Pet Grooming With Love’ that is

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Rhodesian Ridgeback

located on Figueroa by Ave 57. I took my two big Ridgebacks there for their New Year groom and was extremely pleased with the courteous manner of staff and the professionalism shown. My dogs enjoyed a bath, pedicure, ear wash and more for a price that was less than most other pet grooming shops in Los Angeles. I would recommend them highly so take your beloved pet in for a refreshing & exciting time.   http://www.petgroomingwithlovela.com

Eagle Rox-Thai Food

Eagle Rox-Thai Food

a great new Thai Restaurant. The Thai Eagle Rox restaurant has been open for several months and it is the place to go if a home buyer is cruising the area and in need of a rest.

The food is excellent and the atmosphere has great charm to make your experience very memorable in having a tasty meal. The prices are also right, in this great food establishment enhancing the area with a different taste for all to enjoy. My favorite, consist of the Spring Rolls and the Pad Thai along with the Thai Ice Tea which is completely refreshing.

Eagle Rock Has It In Writing

Eagle Rock Historian

The Eagle Rock community is excited to now have a local author’s book describe its history. Here is an article taken from a local paper showing the enthusiasm in reading about the history of just Eagle Rock.

Local resident and author Eric Warren, president of the Eagle Rock Historical Society, selected remarkable vintage images of his neighborhood’s past
from the society’s outstanding archives as well as other public and private
collections. They illustrate Eagle Rock’s steady evolution from an
oak-shaded valley into one of Los Angeles’s great neighborhoods.
In over 200 maps, graphics and photographs, individual images
combine to depict the development of our civic involvement, schools and
churches and commercial district. Particular attention is paid to Occidental
College and its historic connections to the community. The role of our
town as “Homeland” is depicted through the stories of many of our families.
The book, published by Arcadia Publishing, is now available in
both local and national stores, and from the Society during our Saturday
hours at a cost of $21.95

Be reminded, this is a local resident of the community adding value by bringing Eagle Rock History to light. As your local Realtor, the knowledge and history of N.E.L.A real estate is only a fraction off the service supplied to all clients.

Your information is confidential and private never shared
